6 Tips in Caring for Your Mercedez-Benz

The Mercedes-Benz car has long been known for its safety, quality engineering and durability. However, the Mercedes-Benz car requires a lot of upkeep. For example, the repair costs or the cost of replacing parts is very high. Typically, Mercedes-Benz mechanics have lengthy wait lists. Thus, if you have a Mercedes-Benz car, it is in your best interest to learn how to keep the car in good condition so that it can last for many years. The following are six things that can be done to facilitate the upkeep of the Mercedes-Benz car.

Tip 1: Read the Owner’s Manual

The owner’s manual is filled with useful information and instructions. Being aware of the information in the owner’s manual could possibly save you a lot of money and trouble because you will know exactly what to do to maintain your car in such a way that it is less likely to have problems.

Tip 2: Basic Checks

Check coolant hoses, temperature and oxygen sensors several times per year as suggested in the Mercedes-Benz owner’s manual.

Tip 3: Keep it Cool

Run the air conditioner at least ten minutes weekly (even during the winter) so that the air conditioner in the Mercedes-Benz will be able to run without difficulty. The reason this is necessary is that when the air conditioner is not being used, the hoses will dry and shrink which means that there will be component failure and loss of refrigerant.

Tip 4: Change That Oil

Follow the regularly scheduled oil change suggestions which call for oil changes every 10,000 kilometers or every six months. Also, remember to change oil filters every time you get an oil change. Keep in mind that getting the oil changed is possibly the most cost effective and important thing you can do to ensure the life of the engine. Motor oil will tend to lose the ability to lubricate the parts of an engine over time. Also it collects meal particles and dirt, and this causes parts of the engine to work harder than usual which means that the engine will wear out faster. Synthetic oil does cost more than a regular oil would; however, synthetic oils will last longer and perform much better.

Tip 5: Tires

Care for the tires. Caring for the tires on your Mercedes-Benz not only ensures that you will have a safe comfortable ride, but also your vehicle will have excellent fuel economy and will perform better. The tire inflation pressure needs to be checked weekly. Adjust tire pressure as needed or according to what the inflation chart on the driver’s door sill indicates. Stable tire pressure is important because having stable tire pressure will result in tires lasting much longer. Also, the tires on your Mercedes-Benz should be balanced and rotated at least every six months, and the tires should be inspected for damage and wear.

Tip 6: Fluids

Check the fluids weekly. For instance, checking the fluids should involve checking not only the oil but also the coolant, the washer fluid, the power steering fluid and the brake and transmission fluid each month. Of note, it is best to use fluids that are recommended by the Mercedes company owner’s manual. If you don’t use the recommended fluids, you could damage key parts of the car and cause yourself to experience danger if you attempt to drive the car.
